Le Meridien Ku Chawe Inn – Zomba Plateau

Kuchawe Inn sits comfortably on the rim of Zomba Plateau offering panoramic views of Africa and Zomba town formerly the colonial capital of Malawi. The hotel rooms offer en suite facilities, satellite television, radio and telephones. The rooms also have a fire place insuring you a cosy and romantic night. The restaurant has stylish surroundings and is reminiscent of an Alpine ski lodge offering gourmet cuisine.  Enjoy hiking the mountain where there is a huge bio-diversity of birds and animals. Trout fishing can be arranged through the hotel with the Zomba Forestry department. The hotel also boasts one of the best conference facilities in the country.

Zomba Mountain is a plateau and stands 1,800m with peaks to over 2000m. Much of the plateau is forested as well as afforestation there is an incredible variety of natural vegetation from jungle-like creepers to wild flowers, ferns, thorn bushes, orchids and lichen. A wide variety of berries also grow wild and is often on sale by vendors on the side of the road. Butterfly and bird life is prolific and will interest the most avid of enthusiasts. Streams run through the forest over small waterfalls and rapids to the Mulunguzi Dam.

The hotel is one and a half hours drive from Chileka Airport, Blantyre the nearest international airport and twenty minutes from Zomba town in the valley below.

From Kuchawe there are many interesting view points and trails within walking distance of the hotel. Road conditions permitting (it varies with the whether) there is an awesome circuit drive around the top of the mountain to these view points such as Queens (where Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother stood in 1957) and Emperors view (where Emperor Haile Salassie of Ethiopia stood) the most famous probably being Chingwe's Hole.
